If you know what you are doing, it is possible to pack a months’ worth of clothes into a small carry-on bag allowed as hand luggage by budget airlines. In the video below, travel expert Tom Ayzenberg demonstrates exactly how it can be done. When you see how clever this packing method is, you will realize why the video has gone viral on the internet.
The 28-year old Mr. Ayzenberg, a former IT consultant who now writes a travel blog, describes his way of folding and packing as the “clown car” style, and he admits that he learned this packing hack from his own mother.
“I’m going to pack all this stuff into this bag,” he says at the beginning of the video, displaying dozens of jeans, shorts, and t-shirts alongside a small backpack-like carry-on bag. He also states that he was packing for a month-long trip.
The trick for saving space involves laying out all of your clothes flat, so that the legs of the pants and the arms of the shirts hand out of the suitcase. Next, the overhanging items get folded on top of each other, carefully tucking them within the bag. The video is speeded up, so you may have to watch it more than once in order to appreciate precisely how to accomplish the same results yourself.
Ayzenberg revealed that the bag in his video is an REI Stratocruiser 22″, and is available for sale online via the REI website. A 20% discount may be available if you are prompt, because we understand that REI is offering its members 20% off during the period of March 27 through April 13, 2015. The coupon code “20REWARDS” must be used in order to get the discount.
